Ministries
Vestry
The Vestry is the "Board of Directors" for
the parish corporation. The Vestry is the authoritative body of the congregation
and is subject only
to the Diocesan and National Church Canons. The Vestry is responsible for determininig
the policies and goals of the congregation and is to communicate with the congregation
about the goals, concerns, and functioning of the Church in the modern world.
The Rector is a member of the Vestry and presides over meetings of the Vestry
and congregation. Other members of the Vestry are elected by the ongregation
at the Annual Parish Meeting. The duties of the Vestry and its officers are
prescribed in the Canons (bylaws) of the diocese and in the charter and bylaws
of the parish.
Acolytes
The
purpose of the acolyte is to assist the priest during service on Sunday or
when requested. Youth ages 8 and up, as well as, adults are encouraged to
become acolytes.
Adult
Choir
The
choir serves as the song leaders each Sunday.
Altar
Guild
Members
of the Altar Guild are responsible for preparing the altar appropriately
for serivces, which include putting out liturgical items, linens and special
hangings for the appropriate season.
Ash
Wednesday Service
A city-wide celebration of Ash Wednesday which gathers the clergy and parishioners
of all Greensboro Episcopal parishes to celebrate the beginning of Lent.
Church
School
Dedicated
and experienced teachers meet with students from pre-school to adult each
Sunday at 9:00AM. Living the Good News series is used for instruction, which
goes along with the lessons used for the worship service.
Courtesies
and Amenities Committee
The
Courtesies and Amenities Committee is a functional group of the Episcopal
Church Women that extends courtesies and amenities to parishioners and their
families.
Episcopal
Church Men (ECM)
The
churchmen provide opportunities for fellowship, service and stewardship.
They sponsor the Father's Day Celebration and assist with the Pancake
Supper. They also oversee the maintenance of the church's building and grounds.
Episcopal
Church Women (ECW)
The
Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church Women provides opportunities to assist
the women of the church to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation, mission,
and ministry in the community, nation and the world and to take their place
in the life, governance and worship of the church through fellowship service
and stewardship.
Episcopal
Youth Committee (EYC)
EYC
is a fellowship group composed of the youth of the church who gather for
fun, and moral and spiritual growth. This ministry offers an opportunity
to make a real impact in the spiritual journey of these young people.
Fannie
S. Leary Yardsale
This
is a time for gathering and preparing interesting foods and other articles
for sale. It is also a time for fellowship and working together to increase
the finances of the Church. This is always a shared activity of men and women
working together.
Fellowship
Hour
A
time following worship for sharing food, friendship, fellowship and celebrating
the many exciting ministries of the Redeemer.
Flowers
Flowers
are placed on the altar to the Glory of God as an expression of devotion,
thank-offerings and memorials. Flowers are given every Sunday in the year
except the Sundays during the Lenten Season. At Christmas and at Easter,
groups of parishioners are asked to give Poinsettias and Easter Lillies to
be placed on the altar and in the windows.

Readers
Lay
readers are instructed by the clergy (with more extensive training for officiants)
and take turns participating in services.
Parish
Picnic
In
the fall of each year, parishioners gather in a local park to celebrate Holy
Communion. This time also provides the parish family with opportunities to
come together in a fun and relaxing atmosphere to bring about spiritual nourishment,
fellowship, sharing good food and good times with energy and/or creative
ideas.
Usher
Ministry
Ushers
greet and extend a warm welcome to all attending, especially to newcomers
and visitors. They distribute bulletins and help with seating. Ushers also
take up the offering, provide a count of the congregation to the Priest and
assist parishioners in moving to and from the altar rail during communion.
