Episcopal
Relief and Development Fund
The purpose of this fund is to respond to human suffering at home and around
the world. We provide emergency assistance after disasters, rebuild communities,
and help children and families climb out of poverty. Wherever you hear of others
in need the ERD is also present.
United Thank Offering
(UTO)
We offer our prayers of thanks to God and then we give tangible thanks for
those blessings in the form of coins or bills. UTO then funds grants throughout
the world.
Thanksgiving Bread
This is an annual project sponsored by the Young Adult Bible Study Group whereby
the group gathers on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to bake loaves of bread
which are donated to the Greensboro Urban Ministry to serve the homeless on
Thanksgiving Day. The group starts at 8:00 AM and stays until completion; each
hour they pause to offer a prayers of thanksgiving and intercession.
Adonia
Rigsby Scholarship Fund
This
scholarship is given to all graduating seniors in memory and in honor of
this deceased member.
Breakfast
with Santa
This
is a fund raising project for the Adonia Rigsby Scholarship Fund.
Christmas
and Thanksgiving Boxes
Every
Christmas and Thanksgiving members of the congregation are asked to donate
items for baskets of food to be given to underprivileged families.
Crop
Walk
Each
October, Greensboro Urban Ministry and Church World Services sponsor Crop
Walk to raise money to fight hunger locally and globally. One fourth of the
proceeds go to Potter’s House Community Kitchen, the remainder
goes to Third World countries. Volunteers can contribute to the effort either
by walking themselves, or sponsoring other walkers.
Graduate
Breakfast
A
time set aside after high school graduation to celebrate with the graduates.
In addition to breakfast, a former graduate shares words of inspiration,
advice, adventure and most of all encourages them to set attainable goals
as they begin their college adventures. Graduates are presented with unique
gifts from their advisors. A special bible is also presented to each graduate
by the ECW president.
Greensboro
Urban Ministry Food Bank’s Grocery Store Food Drives
The
Food Bank collects non-perishable items such as canned vegetables and meats,
cereals, and dried milk to distribute through Emergency Assistance. Redeemer
volunteers participate in food drives sponsored by Leadership Greensboro
each Spring and Fall, soliciting food items at a local grocery store for
use by the Food Bank.
ProjectCARE
(Coaching Accelerates Rich Excellence)
A
tutoring enrichment academy program for building specialized test-taking
skills and abilities in seven testing areas including SAT, PSAT, and ACT.
Sandwich
Boxes
On
the first Sunday of each month, 100 sandwiches are made for the homeless
shelter. With the help of the EYC, these sandwiches are boxed along with
cookies and delivered to Greensboro Urban Ministry for distribution.
